The properties across this Northampton estate had hanging tile exteriors that needed replacing as part of a wider programme to improve fire safety, thermal performance and energy efficiency across Northampton Partnership Homes housing stock.
Delivering this required a full strip-out of the existing external system, right back to the cavity, before a new, upgraded specification could go in. It’s a technically demanding scope of work, carried out across occupied homes while keeping residents’ day to day disruption to a minimum.
The Challenge
The properties across this Northampton estate had hanging tile exteriors that needed replacing as part of a wider programme to improve fire safety, thermal performance and energy efficiency across Northampton Partnership Homes housing stock.
Delivering this required a full strip-out of the existing external system, right back to the cavity, before a new, upgraded specification could go in. It’s a technically demanding scope of work, carried out across occupied homes while keeping residents’ day to day disruption to a minimum.
The Solution
Working as a joint venture, M3 and FSG combined resources, expertise and teamwork to deliver a consistent, high-quality result across every property in the programme. Full scaffolding was installed throughout to allow safe, efficient access for the scale of work involved.
- Removal of existing hanging tiles, insulation and battens back to the cavity
- Installation of 175mm fire-rated insulation
- Fitting of fire board and plywood
- Application of a breathable membrane
- Installation of intumescent strips
- Fitting of Hardie® Plank cladding
Phase 1 saw 24 properties completed to this new specification. With that phase successfully delivered, the same team is now well underway on Phase 2, continuing the transformation across the wider estate.
The Result
The completed properties now have a fully upgraded external wall system, finished with modern Hardie® Plank cladding and backed by a significantly improved fire safety and thermal performance specification. These upgrades will make a real, lasting difference to residents, improving comfort and energy efficiency for years to come.
